Answers to common questions – and how to reach us.

Connecting

How do I connect to a Windows PC?

Tap + and choose RDP, or simply type the host name or IP address into Quick Connect. Without a port, remoteNX uses the standard RDP port 3389. Remote Desktop must be enabled on the Windows PC, and your user must be allowed to sign in over Remote Desktop.

What is NLA, and why does sign-in fail?

Network Level Authentication (NLA) checks your credentials before the session starts. remoteNX supports NLA and Kerberos. If sign-in fails, check the user name (for domains DOMAIN\user or user@domain), the password and whether your account has Remote Desktop access. For Kerberos the device must reach the domain controller – through a tunnel if needed.

How do I use Omnissa Horizon and Access?

Add your Connection Server or Access tenant under Tools → Horizon Servers. You can open desktops in the built-in Horizon Web Client inside the app, or hand the session off to the Horizon Client if it is installed.

Which formats does Quick Connect understand?

Host names and IP addresses with an optional port, ssh commands such as ssh -p 2222 admin@host, and rdp:// and ssh:// URLs.

SSH

How do I use SSH keys?

Under Tools → SSH Keys you create Ed25519, ECDSA or RSA keys or import existing ones – PuTTY files (.ppk) included. From the key detail you can install the public key on a host; remoteNX adds it to authorized_keys there. Private keys live in your device's keychain.

How do I set up tunnels and jump hosts?

Create an SSH tunnel under Tools → Tunnels. With Connect Through you chain it through one or more jump hosts (like ProxyJump). A connection can then run through that tunnel. Port forwards can also run on their own, without an open session.

Why does remoteNX ask about the host key?

On the first connection remoteNX shows the server's fingerprint and remembers it (pinning). If it changes later, the app warns you – this protects against man-in-the-middle attacks. Remembered host keys are under Settings → Trusted SSH Hosts.

App

Which languages does the app support?

The interface is in English for now; German is planned. This website is available in German and English.

What does the Live Activity show?

Running sessions appear on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island with status and duration. One tap takes you back to the session. The Live Activity is created locally on the device; no data is sent to us.

How do I import my connections?

remoteNX imports .rdp files, CSV lists and hosts from an OpenSSH config file. Open the file with remoteNX or use the import in the connection list. Check the imported entries afterwards.

How does iCloud sync work?

Connections, tunnels and identities sync between your devices through your iCloud. Passwords and private keys only sync if you also turn on Also Sync Passwords and Private Keys; they then travel through your iCloud Keychain. We have no access to this data.

What data does remoteNX send? (Privacy and telemetry)

None by default. Crash reports and anonymous usage statistics are off and can be turned on under Settings → Privacy. Crash reports are scrubbed of host names, user names, IP addresses and terminal content before they are sent. All details are in the privacy policy.

Can my organisation deploy remoteNX through MDM?

This is in development and comes with a future release: through Apple's ManagedApp framework, connections, certificates, keys and policies will be distributed centrally – for example with Intune, Jamf or Workspace ONE. Today an MDM can already lock crash reports and usage statistics off. More under MDM.
